DATA HYGIENE
It's more important than ever to keep your mailing lists up to date. Obsolete data not only costs you money spent on undeliverable or misdirected mail, but can cause lost sales and can impact customer goodwill. Studies have found that on average, up to 20% of records within a typical house file are undeliverable. By keeping your data current, you will save on printing, mailing and postage costs. And the US Postal Service now requires you to comply with their Move Update regulations for all Presorted mailings. This means you must update your mailing list every 95 days by one of several USPS approved processes. The most common and easiest methods are:
- National Change of Address (NCOA): USPS maintains the NCOA file, which contains all the nationwide address changes for the previous 48 months. We can compare your list to this file and update your database with new addresses.
- OneCodeTMACS: Using the Intelligent Mail Barcode you can receive address updates electronically.
- Address Correction Service: By placing an endorsement, such as "Address Service Requested", on your mail piece, the USPS will forward mail to a new address and notify you of the change and return any undeliverable mail. We can then update your list to incorporate these changes.
Other important list hygiene tools available to eliminate outdated records in your database are:
- "Do not mail" purging.
- Deceased recipient purging.
- Apartment number appending to increase deliverability.
Benefits of Data Hygiene:
- Control mailing waste and save on postage and printing.
- Reduced lost sales.
- Increase customer loyalty.
