As you are probably aware the USPS has been losing money for the last few years, in large part due to the Congressional prefunding requirement on their retiree account. So, over this past year the USPS has been making many changes to their operations such as closing processing plants. In San Diego, the USPS has closed the Midway post office and moved it’s flat processing from there, up to Carmel Mountain at the Margaret Sellers post office. Another way to stem the bleeding of revenue is to increase postage rates.
So, the USPS has announced that it will increase postal rates effective Jan. 27, by an average of 2.57%. First-class full rate postage will increase to 46 cents. Standard mail will increase about 2.72%. Don’t panic though! Some rates did not increase by much. See our postage rate chart to get all the details.
