Direct mail marketing is very effective when the recipient reads your mail. The quickest way to get someone to read your mail is with a postcard. Postcards are visually appealing and draw recipients to respond. These can be great ways to market for services, products or real estate. Real estate postcard marketing focuses on the visual appeal of a home as well as a few short bullet points about the great features. This format can be translated into great postcard marketing for other industries too.

3 Reasons to use direct mail postcards:

  1. Visual:  Postcards due to the nature of space constraints, require you to use visual images to convey your message. This is a great way to capture attention and draw out emotions. Images are powerful tools to drive response. Make sure to take the time to pick out images that  reflect the emotions you are trying to elicit.
  2. Concise text: Postcards require wording to be brief and to the point. Using bold or bullets to add an extra highlight to key points is a good idea. There is no place for full sentences and long winded explanations on a postcard. It is easy for the recipient to get the point and know how to respond. Sometimes it helps to bounce ideas off of people outside of your company to make sure that your text is being understood the way you want it to be.
  3. Timely:  Since postcards are easy to design and produce quickly, you can keep your information timely and relevant. Have a house that just went up for sale in the real estate market? You can send out a notification to others in the neighborhood that may be considering  selling and get in front of them before anyone else! How about a special sale, announce it to the local neighbors first with a special 1 hour early entry!

Postcard marketing is very flexible in size. If you are mailing with presorted standard postage, then you can mail up to a 6 1/8 x 11 ½ size to really stand out and yet pay no more in postage than a standard  4 ¼ x 6 card. Just remember on the lager postcards, this does not mean adding more words. Use more images, make everything bigger, add a QR code that links to a video or more information the recipients are interested in, too many words distract from the postcard messaging. Postcards work well for most industries but are very successful for real estate marketing. Remember to really plan out your timeline, your subject and your desired outcome. Knowing what you are trying to get recipients to do, will help you translate that clearly on the postcards. Without a planned outcome in mind, you are just wasting your money.
