In January 2014, the USPS will require mailers to use the Full Service IMB (Intelligent Mail Barcode). The IMB will be helpful as it contains the type of mail, who mailed it, where it’s going and can contain additional information for tracking purposes. This will allow the USPS to process mail quickly and more efficiently.  One of the most important benefits of Full Service is that it allows the mailer to submit their postal paperwork and data files electronically, therefore allowing the USPS to process your incoming mailer quicker. This is also the first step towards a service that will be called Seamless Acceptance. Although there is no timeline for this, it will be an all-electronic process and will not require a mail clerk to check in your mail. This streamlined process will speed up the USPS and allow them to use a reduced amount of employees.

What does all this mean to you, the mail owner? You’ll first need to check with your service provider to make sure they have been certified by the USPS to process Full Service mail. This is very important as the last thing you want to happen is to have your mail rejected as your provider was not certified. If you’re already an Eye/Comm client, we’ve got you covered as we’ve been certified for the last 3 years.

Although this will be a change for some, it really is for the better. You’ll will be able to track your mail and it will be processed a lot quicker….who doesn’t want that?
